(Jakarta, 18th) The Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia (Kementan) is expanding the global market for agricultural products by utilizing the United Arab Emirates (UAE)'s strategic logistics network to boost export scale and enhance the competitiveness of national products.
Indonesian Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Sudaryono, stated that he has met with the UAE Ambassador to Indonesia, Abdullah Salem Al Dhaheri, to explore related cooperation opportunities.
"During the talks, we discussed the potential for exporting Indonesian agricultural products to the global market through the UAE's logistics and distribution network," the Deputy Minister confirmed in a statement in Jakarta.
He said that the Indonesian government is continuously strengthening economic diplomacy in the agricultural sector.
Earlier, Deputy Minister Sudaryono received a visit from UAE Ambassador to Indonesia, Abdullah Salem Al Dhaheri, on Friday, May 16th, at the Ministry of Agriculture headquarters.
"This meeting is an important step to deepen the longstanding strategic partnership between Indonesia and the UAE," Sudaryono said.
The Deputy Minister stated that the UAE is an important partner for Indonesia, not only due to economic cooperation but also because of the close ties between the leaders of both countries.
"The close relationship initiated during President Joko's era and now continued by President Prabowo showcases the strong chemistry between the two nations," he said.
Sudaryono further emphasized the need to expand the scale of existing cooperation, particularly in exports, downstream processing, and agricultural product processing.
"We hope to explore and continue promoting existing investment projects, including meat processing, exporting goods to the Middle East, and exploring African and European markets," the Deputy Minister stated.
He mentioned that the UAE has long been one of Indonesia's main trading partners in the Gulf region, especially in agricultural products such as eggs, poultry, fruits, palm oil, and cloves.
"We hope to increase the quantity of direct exports worldwide, which requires various channels, one of which is through the UAE," he added.
According to data from the Indonesian Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), in 2024, Indonesia's trade surplus in agricultural products with the UAE is approximately USD 499.89 million.
Sudaryono also emphasized that Indonesia welcomes productive investments that can create jobs, enhance added value, and strengthen national food security.
Additionally, Deputy Minister Sudaryono also met with the Argentinian Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Agustin Tejeda Rodriguez, to explore cooperation possibilities in the livestock sector.
Indonesia has opened investment opportunities in beef and live cattle commodities for countries that meet technical requirements and offer competitive prices.
By continuously strengthening international cooperation, Sudaryono hopes that Indonesia can further consolidate its global role as a major agricultural nation and actively contribute to the global food supply chain.
UAE Ambassador to Indonesia, Abdullah Salem Al Dhaheri, welcomed this initiative.
He specifically mentioned the impact of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) signed in 2022, which showed significant trade balance growth results in 2023.
"During 2023, we witnessed the outcomes of CEPA, including a notable enhancement in trade balance. We saw a great potential for bridging the interests of both countries," Al Dhaheri stated.
The UAE expressed interest in continuing investment in Indonesia's agricultural and livestock processing sectors and pushing for joint participation by investors from both countries to achieve a shared vision in the food sector.
