Support for Early Recovery in Gaza: EU and Others Pledge Over 4 Billion

A Palestine donor conference hosted by the European Union was held in Brussels on the 13th, with participants pledging over 880 million euros (approximately 4.08 billion ringgit) in aid to support the early recovery of the Gaza Strip.

According to a report by China News Service, and as announced by the European Commission on the day of the meeting, the conference was jointly chaired by European Commissioner for Mediterranean Affairs Dubravka Šuica and Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa. Attendees included officials from EU member and partner countries, representatives from international and regional organizations, and financial institutions.

The announcement stated that at the meeting, the EU launched the "Gaza Teams Initiative," committing to provide 883.6 million euros in aid to Palestine through this initiative to support Gaza’s early recovery. This includes projects such as rebuilding water supply and sanitation facilities, facilities for debris and solid waste treatment, as well as the medical, energy, and agri-food systems in Gaza.

According to the announcement, the funding contributors include Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, Finland and other EU member states; EU partner countries such as the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Norway, and Japan; financial institutions such as the World Bank and the European Investment Bank. Australia, Canada, and other countries have also expressed intentions to contribute.
