KUCHING, May 11: PCCS Consultancy Sdn. Bhd. has proposed the development of a digital map application showcasing heritage sites and buildings in Sarawak.
The company’s Director of Professional Services, Ts Andy Tiong, said the initiative is being planned in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development, along with the Museum Department, as a step toward enhancing future management of the state’s heritage assets.
“We aim to develop this program and hold discussions within the next month or two to determine what needs to be done regarding other heritage sites here.
“Perhaps we can create multiple digital models on the map.
“In the future, anyone wishing to visit the Borneo Cultural Museum can simply click on the digital map and access the virtual models. That’s the plan,” he said.
Tiong shared this during the launch of the “Timeless Treasures: The Legacy of Old Hokkien School & Darul Kurnia” program at Plaza Merdeka yesterday.
He further stated that the museum authorities have expressed their support, confirming their readiness to fund the project.
According to Tiong, the idea for this initiative stemmed from the successful organization of the Timeless Treasures program, which highlighted the Old Hokkien School and Darul Kurnia buildings as valuable heritage assets of Sarawak.
The project, set to commence in early 2024, will also serve as a platform to showcase the talent and skills of students from Community Colleges in technological fields.
“Initially, we trained participants to understand the tools and the purpose of data collection.
“Afterward, they began processing data and realized that with today’s technology, they could achieve better results.
“The outcomes have been very promising, and the next steps involve building physical models and subsequently digital models,” he explained.
As a result of the Timeless Treasures program, Tiong acknowledged that the team had successfully linked key aspects of the heritage buildings seamlessly.
