(Sibu, 15th) The Rotary Club of Sibu recently organized a warm Chinese New Year luncheon to promote the spirit of “Service Above Self” and celebrate Rotary Day of Service 2026, inviting 41 community seniors to gather together and share the festive joy and care.
The event was held at “Amitabha Vegetarian Restaurant” located in Batu Satu, generously supported and assisted by the restaurant owner and his team of 11 volunteers. A total of 61 people participated on the day, including 8 Rotary Club members and 12 volunteers.
Rotary Club President Jerry and former director Jeff delivered welcome speeches at the event, emphasizing that the gathering aimed to serve the vulnerable elderly in the community through practical acts of care.
Seniors were treated to a sumptuous vegetarian lunch and enjoyed interactive sessions of music, singing, and dancing, creating a lively and harmonious atmosphere. In addition, members distributed red packets to each attending senior, offering them festive blessings.
This project closely aligns with Rotary's seven areas of focus, particularly “supporting seniors”, “basic needs”, and “literacy”. Through companionship and community interaction, the activity not only met the nutritional needs of the seniors but also effectively alleviated their sense of loneliness.
The Rotary Club of Sibu plans to make such senior care events a regular occurrence, holding them annually and further expanding into health screening services, continuously contributing to the enhancement of life quality for community seniors.
