Fans of Barbie Hsu Raise Funds for Memorial Benches: Locations in Paris and Toronto

Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu (Xu Xiyuan) has been gone for one year. Recently, reports emerged that overseas fans have spontaneously created memorial spaces for her. Following the appearance of a memorial location in Paris, France, a fundraising campaign for a “memorial bench” in Toronto, Canada, has also officially met its goal, giving fans around the world more spots where they can “sit down and think of her.”

This initiative stemmed from a simple idea by overseas fans: "If only there could be a place for her in the city where I live." After doing some research, fans discovered that the City of Toronto offers a “Commemorative Bench Program,” allowing memorial benches to be set up in parks and maintained by the authorities for 10 years. After confirming the costs and procedures one by one, one fan launched a fundraising campaign on GoFundMe, with the sole goal of placing a bench engraved with Barbie Hsu’s name by the lakeside park. In a short amount of time, the fundraising target was reached, and the organizer immediately announced the end of the campaign, promising full transparency with the funds raised. Any surplus funds would be used for flowers and beautifying the surrounding environment.

Prior to this, fans of Barbie Hsu had also applied for a memorial bench in the Tuileries Garden in Paris, attracting many emotional comments online: “Maybe we’re not in the same country, but we miss her in the same way.”
