On the 8th in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Portuguese Foreign Minister Rangel, pointing out that China and Portugal had properly solved the Macau issue through negotiations in the past, setting an exemplary model for peacefully resolving disputes. In the current situation, with a complex and changing international landscape and aggravated deficits in global governance, countries need more dialogue, more understanding, and more cooperation. Rangel noted that the consultation-based solution of the Macau issue between Portugal and China is significant for reference. Both sides share common ground on international issues and are willing to strengthen cooperation under multilateral frameworks.

Wang Yi said that China and Portugal properly resolved the Macau issue through negotiations in the past, setting an example of peacefully solving disputes. Amid today's entangled and changing international situation and the aggravation of global governance deficits, all countries need more dialogue, understanding, and cooperation. In this regard, President Xi Jinping has put forward a global governance initiative, and China is willing to work together with Portugal to promote global governance in a way that is timely, fairer, more reasonable and effective, and to make due contributions to the cause of peace and development for humanity.

Wang Yi highlighted that this year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Portugal comprehensive strategic partnership, and the current visit of Portuguese Prime Minister Montenegro to China is of great significance. Beijing is willing to work with Lisbon to ensure the complete success of this visit, deepen friendship, promote cooperation, and elevate China-Portugal relations to a new level.

In the Chinese press release, Rangel expressed that Portugal and China resolved the Macau issue through friendly negotiations, setting an example for the international community. The world currently faces numerous challenges; Lisbon supports multilateralism and insists on resolving disputes through dialogue. The two sides have broad consensus on international issues and should work together to remember history and maintain peace. The concepts embodied in the global governance initiative represent important principles for solving current global challenges and international hot issues. Portugal is willing to strengthen communication with China and deepen cooperation in the United Nations and other multilateral mechanisms.

It is understood that the meeting between Wang Yi and Rangel coincided with Prime Minister Montenegro's official three-day visit to China from September 8th to 10th. This is also Montenegro's first visit to China since taking office in April last year. Rangel previously visited China for five days from March 24th to 28th this year, during which he and Wang Yi held the second China-Portugal foreign ministerial strategic dialogue.
