Mainland Chinese State Media Publishes Article: As Long as There Is No Separation, Both Sides of the Strait Can Sit Down and Communicate

(China, 27th) Mainland Chinese state media Xinhua News Agency on Sunday (October 26) published an article signed by “Zhong Taiwen,” emphasizing that the Taiwan issue must inevitably be resolved by Chinese people themselves. It said that as long as the country is not divided, both sides of the Strait can absolutely sit down to dialogue and communicate, resolve conflicts, accumulate mutual trust, and build consensus for achieving complete reunification.
The article mentioned that 80 years ago, the Chinese people achieved a great victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, and with this, Taiwan was restored. Not long after, due to the continuation of China’s civil war and interference from external forces, the two sides of the Strait fell into a special state of prolonged political confrontation, thereby producing the Taiwan issue.
The article went on to say that the Taiwan issue emerged due to national weakness and chaos; it is a leftover problem from China’s civil war in the 1940s, an internal affair of one country and one nation, and will inevitably be completely resolved along with the great rejuvenation of the nation.
The article emphasized that Taiwan’s status as a part of China is already settled, and stated: “After the Taiwan issue arose, although there has long been political confrontation across the Strait, China’s sovereignty and territory have never been split, and Taiwan’s status as part of China has never changed.”
The article continued, saying on October 1, 1949, the Central People’s Government of the People’s Republic of China declared its founding, replacing the government of the Republic of China as the only legitimate government representing all of China. This, the article says, was a change of regime without any alteration in China’s status as a subject of international law; China’s sovereignty and inherent territorial boundaries did not change. The PRC government naturally and fully enjoys and exercises sovereignty over all of China, including Taiwan.
Regarding United Nations General Assembly Resolution 2758, the article says that when the assembly passed this resolution in 1971, it clearly “recognized the representatives of the government of the People’s Republic of China as the only legitimate representatives of China to the United Nations.” The logical premise of this, the article states, is precisely “Taiwan is a part of China,” and that from the perspective of international law, this thoroughly eliminates the possibility of “two Chinas,” “one China, one Taiwan,” or “Taiwan independence.”
The article mentioned that the Communist Party of China has made major strategic decisions, proposed important policy initiatives to resolve the Taiwan issue and achieve reunification, and promoted a transition in the situation across the Taiwan Strait from tense confrontation to relaxation and improvement, leading to profound changes in the overall landscape of cross-strait relations. The article also stressed that deviating from the one-China principle and the “1992 Consensus” would result in tension and turmoil in cross-strait relations and harm the vital interests of the people in Taiwan.
The article also stated: “As long as the country is not divided, as long as both sides recognize that we are all Chinese and one family, the two sides can absolutely sit down for dialogue and communication, resolve conflicts, build mutual trust, open a new chapter of peaceful development in cross-strait relations, and build consensus for the complete reunification of the motherland!”
