(Kuching, 21st) A complaint alleging that a recipient did not receive the Petra Jaya area sewage project compassionate aid was said to have arisen from a change of homeowner after the grant was approved for disbursement.
Deputy Prime Minister's Political Secretary Irwan Zulkarnain Dato' Muhammad Hasbie stated that the process of distributing the compassionate aid to 219 affected homeowners was strictly conducted according to established procedures, using the homeowner names recorded by the Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) during their data collection.
He said that the compassionate aid grant was approved by the federal government around October 2022, after then Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob visited Kampung Tunku in October 2021, with matters coordinated by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof.
In his statement yesterday, he noted: "After the grant approval, the Village Security and Development Committee of Kampung Tunku was entrusted with collecting the details of the affected homeowners, including names and bank accounts. This was in accordance with the payment procedures established by the Sarawak Development Office (SDO)."
He further explained that the media's recent report of a complaint claiming non-receipt of the compassionate aid needs to be viewed based on the true chronological order of events.
"The complainant in question only completed the property transfer procedures on December 14, 2022, while the compassionate aid grant had already been approved in October of the same year. In fact, the beneficiary information had been submitted to the State Development Office before the check was issued in January 2023."
He said the original homeowner of the property in question had applied for compensation for the sewage project since 2018, and based on the data collected, was recorded as a beneficiary of the aid.
"Officers from the Petra Jaya Parliamentary Service Centre (Pusat Khidmat Parlimen Petra Jaya) have also met with the complainant multiple times since 2023 to explain the actual situation; at that time, the complainant was understood to have acknowledged and understood the situation."
Regarding the complainant’s police report in 2024, he said all relevant parties, including the parliamentary service centre, state development office, and village security and development committee, had already given statements, but the police ultimately decided there was insufficient grounds for further investigation.
Therefore, he said, the Petra Jaya Parliamentary Service Centre only fulfilled the role of coordinating the federal government grant, while document collection and check distribution were all carried out according to procedures set by the relevant authorities.
