Eight Hong Kong Universities Rank Among Top 100 in Asia University Rankings

The Times Higher Education in the UK released its 2026 Asia University Rankings on the 23rd, showing that eight universities from Hong Kong have entered the top 100, two more than last year.

According to a report from China News Service, the University of Hong Kong ranked 6th, making it the highest-ranked university in Hong Kong; the Chinese University of Hong Kong ranked 10th; the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology ranked 12th; City University of Hong Kong rose two spots to rank 14th; the Hong Kong Polytechnic University ranked 18th; Hong Kong Baptist University jumped from 50th last year to 40th.

This year, the Education University of Hong Kong and Lingnan University of Hong Kong participated in the rankings for the first time and both made it into the top 100. The Education University of Hong Kong ranked 37th, and Lingnan University of Hong Kong ranked 84th.

"The performance of local Hong Kong universities in the rankings is encouraging." Hong Kong SAR Government Secretary for Education Choi Yuk-lin stated on social media that evening that the Education Bureau of the SAR Government is actively promoting the "Study in Hong Kong" brand and collaborating closely with major institutions to fully leverage their strengths and contribute to the strategy of rejuvenating the country through science and education as well as the nation’s modernization.

A total of 929 universities from 36 countries or regions were listed in the Times Higher Education 2026 Asia University Rankings. The ranking assessment indicators include "teaching," "research quality," "research environment," "international outlook," and "industry income," among others.
