(Kuala Lumpur, 22nd) UMNO Youth Chief Datuk Akmal is alleged to have disrupted public order. On Monday (22nd), his case was brought to court for the first mention at the Bukit Mertajam Magistrate's Court. However, as the court documents were not yet complete, the court set November 10 for the next mention.
Akmal, who was present in person, arrived at the Bukit Mertajam Court at 8:30 a.m., accompanied by his wife Datin Nashira and a team of defense lawyers.
Wearing a blue vertically-striped long-sleeve shirt and jeans, Akmal smiled and waved to the media after getting out of the car, appearing to be in good spirits.

Several police officers were stationed outside the court, with dozens of supporters also present in the morning to show their support. Among them was Datuk Samsul Kahar, MP for Jempol, Negeri Sembilan. However, compared to the previous highly-charged scene when charges were brought—when large numbers of supporters gathered—the atmosphere this morning was relatively calm.

Some supporters accompanied Akmal into the court, but before the session began, the court officers requested anyone except the accused, their families, and media members to leave the courtroom, so the supporters exited accordingly.
Akmal's case was the first to be heard after court opened. The prosecution team consisted of Penang Head of Prosecution Datuk Nazran, Deputy Public Prosecutors Lee Runqiang and Nor Syakira, while Akmal was represented by five defense lawyers: Datuk Eng Ran, Datuk Hasnah, Aiza, Shahrul, and Shakir. The Magistrate was Nurul Rashidah.
Chief Prosecutor Nazran stated that the prosecution had submitted some documents, but a few were still pending submission to both the court and the defense, thus requesting the court to adjourn the case to November 10 so that all documents could be provided. The defense agreed. Magistrate Nurul Rashidah ultimately scheduled the next hearing for November 10.
Later, outside the court, Akmal told the media that he was fully prepared for today’s hearing, but the prosecutor said the documents were still incomplete. Regardless, he respects the national judicial process and reaffirmed that he will not plead guilty, vowing to fight to the end.
“I believe what we are doing is right, and we have never had any malicious intent. For this case, I will persist to the end. See you in Penang in November!”

Akmal was charged in court on August 22 for allegedly making statements endangering public safety on social media and for improper use of network facilities. He pleaded not guilty.
According to the charges, the accused is alleged to have, on August 11, 2025, at about 3 p.m., published a video via the 'Akmal Saleh' Facebook account, which basically demanded the Attorney General's Chamber, within two days, to announce when they would prosecute the “apek” (hardware shop owner) suspected of hanging the national flag upside down.
The charge states that a man named Zhang Weihong, at the Bukit Mertajam Member of Parliament’s service center, came across the video and claimed the content could cause public panic and incite others to disrupt public order. As a result, the accused is charged under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code. If found guilty, this provision carries a maximum penalty of two years’ imprisonment or a fine, or both.
