Chinese smartphone manufacturer Honor has announced its entry into the humanoid robot industry, advancing its $10 billion (423.17 billion MYR) expansion of its Artificial Intelligence (AI) strategy.
According to reports from Bloomberg, Daily Economic News, and East Money, Honor Device, spun off from Huawei, is developing humanoid robots as one of its measures to enter China's highly competitive AI sector.
Based in Shenzhen, Honor Device announced on the 28th that its New Industry Incubation Department has decided to further expand in the robotics field, including humanoid robots. In March this year, Honor announced a $10 billion new industry expansion plan, focusing on AI and new applications.
Honor CEO George Zhao unexpectedly revealed at the Honor 400 series launch event that the company has already entered the robotics field by sharing stories of employees participating in robot development.
It is reported that the robot showcased by Zhao at the launch event has a running speed of 4 meters per second, breaking the previous record in the robotics industry.
Honor's entry into the robotics field parallels companies like Xiaomi, which has already ventured into electric vehicle manufacturing and smart factory sectors, expanding its business beyond consumer electronics. Like its competitors Oppo and Vivo, Honor is also building its own agency-style AI services, which will be incorporated into its software for smartphones and other devices.
