Ruby Lin attended a bird’s nest brand event yesterday. Previously for Wallace Huo’s birthday, she specially made braised pig’s trotters to celebrate. With her own birthday coming up on the 27th of this month, she joked that her husband probably only knows how to cook dumplings, and that since getting married, he has never cooked—“He’s only ever poured me water.”
Wallace Huo’s birthday was on December 26th last year. Because he didn’t feel like going out, Ruby Lin rolled up her sleeves and cooked at home, serving not only braised pig’s trotters but also Three Cup Chicken, and bought an Olaf cake specially requested by their daughter. The family celebrated simply at home. Asked about her husband’s review, she said, “Of course he said it was delicious!”
She’s quite confident in her cooking skills, but only really started learning how to cook during the pandemic. Before they got married, her husband just loved stir-fried dried tofu with shredded pork and tomato scrambled eggs. “As long as I can master those two dishes, it’s good—he really could eat the same thing over and over. He’s really easy to please.” Ruby Lin’s dishes are mostly home-style; her daughter also loves her fried rice and stir-fried udon, and she can easily make kelp and egg drop soup.
In the past, Ruby Lin loved celebrating her birthday, but after starting a family, with her daughter’s and husband’s birthdays all lined up at the end of the year, plus her own birthday often falling during Lunar New Year, she doesn’t want to trouble her friends and now keeps celebrations simple with family. She revealed that no one has invited her out for her birthday this year yet.
