(Bandar Seri Begawan, 7th) In order to raise awareness and promote initiatives to combat human trafficking crimes, the Human Trafficking Investigation Team of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Royal Brunei Police Force recently held a briefing session on human trafficking crimes for 19 frontline staff of Higher Hotel.
The main objective of this briefing session was to provide more in-depth and detailed knowledge, enabling hotel staff to recognize characteristics and signs of potential victims and to help identify guests who may be involved in human trafficking. By identifying suspicious behaviors, injuries caused by quarrels or physical assaults, requests for help through gestures, or exhibiting abnormal conduct, these are recommended aspects for hotel employees to pay special attention to.
During the session, the Human Trafficking Investigation Team shared its functions and roles, and introduced case studies that have successfully pressed charges and met all human trafficking indictments since the establishment of the unit on August 16, 2011. These cases were all investigated by the team and were ultimately brought to court for trial. The briefing was conducted by officers and members of the team, aiming to enhance the participants’ awareness of combating human trafficking crimes and to promote this initiative at the national level.
