“Teacher Xiao Pang” Yuan Weiren was reported to have passed away at home on the 2nd, at the age of 59. Longtime friend Tao Jingying recently spoke about this on her radio program “Tao Se News,” admitting that she was attending an S family banquet at the time and was in the midst of mourning Da S, but then unexpectedly heard the bad news, causing her to tear up on the spot. “Just at that moment, Kang Ge (Kang Kang) was there too; he’s often a judge on ‘Super Star Avenue’ and was also very close to Xiao Pang, so I hugged him and cried. I was also upset with Xiao Pang, sometimes not knowing how to cherish his own health.”

In 2018, Yuan Weiren suffered a cerebral hemorrhage in Shanghai and was bedridden for 8 years. Tao Jingying specifically named longtime friends in the entertainment circle, including the couples Zhang Yu & Shiyi Lang, Huang Yunling, Chen Zihong, Wu Qixian, Wu Zongxian, and Kang Kang. These people have continuously helped Xiao Pang’s family over the years, covering medical bills, living expenses, and children’s tuition fees. “Everyone is actually very warm-hearted, so hearing the news, everyone felt really sorrowful—because they’re all singers who struggled through the same era.”
Yuan Weiren was bedridden for 8 years, and many friends in showbiz have been quietly looking after him.
While alive, Yuan Weiren created many hit songs, including Tao Jingying’s “Leaving Me,” Wu Qixian’s “Love Puppet,” Faye Wong’s “Stubborn” and “Merry-Go-Round,” as well as Na Ying’s “Conquer.” Tao Jingying regretfully revealed that many of Yuan Weiren’s classic works’ royalties had long since been sold off; “Even if we keep singing them, there’s nothing we can do. As for the others I’m not sure, but the songs he wrote for me seemed to have been sold off.” She praised Yuan Weiren as a creator with a lot of dedication. Recalling old memories, Tao Jingying’s tone was filled with deep sorrow.
