(Kuching, 24th) The Sarawak government is actively reviewing laws and regulations related to palm oil waste, aiming to promote the downstream utilization and industrial development of waste.

Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari, the Premier of Sarawak, stated that he has instructed the Sarawak Minister of Food Industry, Commodities, and Regional Development, Datuk Seri Stephen Rundi, to engage in discussions with Sarawak Attorney General, Datuk Seri Safri Ali, to study the legal amendment matters.

"Datuk Seri Stephen Rundi will discuss with the Attorney General about amending relevant laws so that we can effectively manage palm oil waste and develop it as a new source of income for Sarawak." He added, "We also plan to use this waste to produce green energy."

Abang Johari, at a news conference following the inauguration of the Kernal Crushing Plant (KCP) in Lundu today, pointed out that this work aims to strengthen the development of the circular economy in Sarawak, making it one of the key income pillars in the region.

He further revealed that Sarawak currently has 85 palm oil processing plants and plans to collect the waste generated by these plants to centralized processing centers for uniform treatment and processing, producing multiple by-products, including biofuels.

"This will give rise to a large number of by-products, with biofuels being the foundation for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production." He said, "If the plan is successfully implemented, Sarawak is expected to become an important production base for SAF in the region, thereby enhancing overall economic benefits."
