In a small town in south-central Mexico, a young gas station employee is seen squatting on the ground, carefully scrubbing a stray dog with white fur and brown spots using soap, while two other dogs wait quietly in line. However, the employee was later fired for his actions.
According to reports from 'El Siglo de Torreón' and 'El Imparcial', the incident took place at a Pemex gas station in Acatlán de Osorio, Puebla state. The young man worked as an attendant at the station and would often share part of his meals with the stray dogs that lingered near the gas station. Later, he saved up money to buy pet soap and washed the dogs during his break and meal times, never letting it interfere with his work.
However, after the boss saw the footage from the surveillance cameras, the employee was fired the same day, with the reason given that stray dogs were not allowed to stay on the premises. After the video went viral, netizens called for a boycott of the gas station. In fact, there are no federal or local laws in Mexico prohibiting the bathing of unowned dogs, and the topic gained traction even outside of Mexico. As for what happened next, reports stated that the boycott led to a noticeable decline in the gas station's business, eventually resulting in a change of ownership. The new operator tried to contact the young man to invite him back to work, but by then he had already found a new job thanks to the story's publicity and declined the offer.
