(Kuala Lumpur, 18th) The Malaysian Ride-hailing Union (GEM) urges all Members of Parliament to put aside party politics and fully support the passage of the "Gig Workers Bill" to contribute to the future and justice of the gig community.
GEM Chairman Jossreeza pointed out that gig workers are not disposable tools, and as Malaysian citizens, they also have the responsibility and right to live with dignity.
He said the inequality and non-transparent wage setting by ride-hailing operators is a modern form of exploitation that must be stopped immediately.
He therefore urges authorities to supervise operators to ensure that user fares and driver wages do not deviate.
For this reason, Jossreeza urges Members of Parliament to put aside party politics and fully support the "Gig Workers Bill," which is expected to be tabled in the upcoming Parliament, to safeguard the future of gig workers.
He stated that the bill should act as a legal shield against wage manipulation and systematic oppression.
He also calls on the gig community not to defend the units that oppress them, otherwise they will self-destruct.
He emphasized that the "Gig Workers Bill" is not just about legislation; it concerns their dignity, future, and the rights of the labor group in the national economy.
