Taiwanese star Darren Wang sought help from a military deserter group to find a fugitive, but suspected that the group leader, Chen Zhiming, took 3.6 million NTD (about 450,000 MYR) without acting on it. Through socialite You Xiangmin, Wang approached then-Taipei City Criminal Police Brigade interim leader Liu Jurong to illegally check Chen's personal data. Furthermore, Wang’s girlfriend, Que Muxuan, was embroiled in a 4 million NTD (about 500,000 MYR) investment dispute with a man surnamed Pan. Wang then sought the assistance of Four Seas Gang member Chen Zijun and his subordinates to help collect the debt. As a result, Wang was suspected of violating the Personal Data Protection Act and was prosecuted.
After multiple hearings at New Taipei District Court, Wang, Que Muxuan, and Liu Jurong all pleaded not guilty, while You Xiangmin and Chen Zijun pleaded guilty for a lighter sentence. The trial concluded on January 21 this year, and the first-instance verdict was delivered on the 22nd, sentencing Darren Wang and his girlfriend Que Muxuan to 6 months in prison, convertible to a fine, with the right to appeal.
