(Bandar Seri Begawan, 1st) In conjunction with His Majesty the Sultan’s 79th birthday, a solemn and grand “Grand National Flag” raising ceremony was held this morning at the main square of the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation Commercial Complex.
This also marks the start of the birthday celebrations, with Minister of Home Affairs, Dato Awang Haji Ahmaddin, personally officiating the flag-raising ceremony at the square.
During the ceremony, the guest of honor handed over the large national flag, measuring 3.7 meters by 7.5 meters, to naval personnel, and the flag was slowly hoisted as the national anthem played. Following this, the choir, accompanied by the police brass band, performed birthday congratulatory and patriotic songs.
After that, the guest of honor presented 2.5 meter by 1.2 meter national flags and birthday posters to the district officers of the four districts of Brunei. They will then hold flag-raising ceremonies at their respective district offices.
In addition, high-ranking officials in attendance included members of the highest organizing committee for the birthday, members of Parliament, permanent and deputy permanent secretaries, district officials, representatives from various government agencies, private sector, village heads, and community leaders.
Furthermore, all citizens nationwide are encouraged to start flying the national flag at homes, shops, buildings, factories, and other places from today until the 31st of this month, as a show of enthusiastic support and celebration for the 79th birthday.
