Popular Korean girl group “BLACKPINK” has once again rewritten global pop music history! On the 21st, YouTube officially announced that BLACKPINK’s official channel has surpassed 100 million subscribers, making them the world’s first artists to achieve this feat. To honor this unprecedented and historic achievement, YouTube specially awarded the highest honor—the ‘Red Diamond Creator Award’—praising it as a remarkable accomplishment worthy of celebration.
BLACKPINK’s official channel was established in June 2016, and after about 9 years and 8 months, they have accumulated more than 41.1 billion views across 648 videos. Currently, not only has their subscriber count surpassed 100 million, but the channel also features 50 videos with over 100 million views each. Among them, representative hits like “DDU-DU DDU-DU,” “Kill This Love,” and “Pink Venom” have all joined the ‘1 Billion Views Club.’
Google and YouTube’s global head of music, Lyor Cohen, also expressed congratulations publicly, stating that this record is not only a breakthrough in numbers but also signifies the deep connection between BLACKPINK and their fans. “They have set a new standard for artists around the world.”
In response to the milestone and the honor of receiving the Red Diamond Creator Award, all four BLACKPINK members specially recorded a video together to share their joy with fans. Jisoo happily showcased the honor to their fans: “To commemorate achieving 100 million subscribers, we received the Red Diamond Award.” Jennie emotionally thanked fans from all over the world, saying, “Once again, thank you to everyone who follows and supports our music. Especially because this record was achieved together with BLINK (the fan name), it makes us even happier.”
The members also expressed through their agency, YG Entertainment, that this honor belongs to their fans who have been by their side all along, “Thank you all for walking with us to today. Because of you, there is BLACKPINK as we know it.”
