In late March 2023, Joyce Cheng reportedly faded out of the spotlight due to a bout of depression. At the end of last month, “Singer 2025” announced she would be joining the show as the 7th replacement singer, and many rehearsal photos of her also began circulating online. However, just two hours before the official recording, the show issued a statement announcing that Joyce had suffered an accident and was withdrawing from the competition due to injury. On the 10th, she appeared at a noodle shop, with her ear and neck still showing visible red marks, sparking concern among many.
Hunan TV released a statement last month explaining that during VCR filming, improper handling of lighting equipment by staff led to Joyce Cheng being accidentally injured. She was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment. The next day, Joyce expressed that, as long as her health permitted, she still wished to perform on stage.
Up until two hours before the live broadcast, Joyce Cheng decided to withdraw, stating: “As my shoulder, neck, and ear injuries have yet to subside, I am currently unable to deliver my best singing performance. After careful consideration, I have decided to withdraw from the 7th competition episode of ‘Singer 2025.’ I will return for the next round once I recover, to give the audience my best.”
Following her renewed absence from the public eye, Joyce Cheng’s health has become a cause for concern. She was recently seen at a noodle shop in Hong Kong, generously taking a photo with the owner. In a photo posted by the shop, Joyce’s ear and neck are visibly red, sparking speculation among netizens that it was related to the accident on “Singer 2025.” Comments included: “Zoom in, her ear and neck are still red, looks like a burn,” “Burned by the lights? Just thinking about it sounds painful,” “Hope she recovers soon,” and “Looking forward to her return to the stage.”
