(Kuala Lumpur, 19th) Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar last night spoke with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz and Afghanistan's Acting Prime Minister Akhund, expressing Malaysia's concern over the escalating tensions along the two countries’ border.
During the call, Anwar emphasized the need to seek a peaceful solution through diplomacy and dialogue to avoid a prolonged conflict, as conflict only brings suffering to the people and undermines peace and stability in the region.
"I also express my deepest condolences regarding the recent flooding in Pakistan and the earthquake in eastern Afghanistan."
He posted on his Facebook page: "Malaysia will continue to stand firmly with Pakistan, Afghanistan, and the international community, providing humanitarian aid, strengthening the spirit of our fellow Muslims, and supporting all initiatives that promote regional peace and stability, including peace talks hosted by the Qatari government."
According to Bernama today, the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on Sunday saying that Pakistan and Afghanistan agreed to an immediate ceasefire after holding a round of talks in Doha, Qatar.
These peace talks were mediated by Qatar and Turkey.
