Virginia State Police said on the 29th that a traffic accident occurred in the state in the early morning hours, in which a bus collided with several cars, resulting in 5 deaths and 44 injuries.
The police stated that the accident happened at around 2:35 a.m., when a bus collided with six cars on an interstate highway in the state. Among the injured, 3 are in serious condition.
According to preliminary investigations, there was a construction zone ahead at the time of the incident, requiring southbound traffic to slow down, but the bus involved failed to reduce speed and crashed into six vehicles.
The police pointed out that all five of the deceased were people in cars struck by the bus. Their ages ranged from 7 to 45 years old.
After the accident, the affected lanes were closed. The cause of the accident is still under further investigation.
