Typhoon Wipha Hits Thailand: 6 Dead, 230,000 Affected

(Thailand, 3rd) — Thailand's Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation announced on the 2nd that since July 21, Typhoon Wipha has triggered floods and landslides across Thailand, resulting in 6 deaths and affecting over 230,000 people.
According to AFP, data from Thailand's Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation show that heavy rains brought by Wipha have caused flooding in 12 provinces, mostly in the northern and central regions.
Images circulating on social media show muddy floodwaters, sandbags piled outside homes, and residents navigating inundated streets in rubber boats.
The Thai Meteorological Department forecasts that rainfall will ease in the coming days.
Thailand experiences monsoon rains every year from May to October, but scientists note that human-induced climate change is leading to increasingly extreme weather patterns, raising the likelihood of destructive floods.
In 2011, Thailand suffered from severe flooding that killed more than 500 people and destroyed millions of homes.
