A video filmed at Indonesia’s Komodo National Park, on Padar Island (Pulau Padar), has recently gone viral online. A male Chinese tourist allegedly littered and was immediately stopped with water splashed on him and sternly scolded by several Australian tourists, sparking heated discussion among netizens.
It is understood that the incident took place on the famous hiking boardwalk of Padar Island, which is renowned for its spectacular mountainous terrain and three-colored bay views, making it one of the most iconic tourist attractions within Komodo National Park.
According to the Indonesian subtitles in the video, the incident began when the Chinese male tourist was suspected of littering in the scenic area, causing several Australian female tourists to confront him on the spot to stop and reason with him.
The footage shows both sides then erupting into a heated verbal altercation on the boardwalk. The Australian women, visibly agitated, repeatedly shouted "Shameful!" and "We are ashamed for you!" as they condemned the man for damaging the environment and demanded that he not return to the area.
In the face of criticism, the Chinese man retorted, "Who are you?" in an attempt to argue, but ultimately did not continue the dispute and then turned to walk back down the boardwalk and departed.
After the video surfaced, it quickly sparked widespread attention online. Many netizens expressed support for tourists who actively stop and condemn littering, believing that protecting the natural environment of national parks and other ecologically sensitive areas is a responsibility every tourist should bear. Some also took the opportunity to call for improved public tourism etiquette and for everyone to work together to safeguard scenic environments and the image of international tourism.
