In order to attract Taiwanese people, especially the younger generation, to visit, Mainland China earlier announced that from July 1, 2025, to December 31, 2027, the permit fee for first-time applications for the Taiwan Compatriot Permit would be waived. The Taiwan Affairs Office stated that in July, the number of "first-time visitors" applying for Taiwan Compatriot Permits increased by 22% compared to June.

Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office, stated on the 27th that since the implementation of the policy waiving the permit fee for Taiwan "first-time visitors" applying for the Taiwan Compatriot Permit on July 1, the number of applications in July increased by 22% compared to June, with 72% of applicants being under 45 years old. Meanwhile, the number of Taiwan "first-time visitors" entering Mainland China in July increased by 33% compared to June.

Previously, China’s National Immigration Administration stated that Taiwanese people applying for the Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan Residents (Taiwan Compatriot Permit) for the first time can enjoy fee reduction or exemption, which covers both the multi-entry five-year permit and the single-entry three-month permit.

In terms of fees, for first-time applicants for the five-year permit in Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan, the charge is 240 Hong Kong dollars (130 Malaysian Ringgit) per permit; for applying for a single-entry permit in Mainland China, the fee is 40 RMB (24 Malaysian Ringgit).
