The World Health Organization released its first estimated report on global e-cigarette use on the 6th.
The report shows that there are currently over 100 million people using e-cigarettes globally, including at least 86 million adults, mainly concentrated in high-income countries.
The WHO said that among adolescents aged 13 to 15 worldwide, at least 15 million are using e-cigarettes; in countries with statistical data, the number of teenagers possibly using e-cigarettes is on average nine times that of adults.
The WHO warns that nearly one in five adults worldwide still use tobacco products and calls for stronger enforcement of tobacco control measures, as well as regulation of e-cigarettes and other new nicotine products.
However, the number of tobacco users has decreased from 1.38 billion in 2000 to 1.2 billion last year. As countries implement increasingly strict regulation of tobacco, the tobacco industry has begun shifting towards alternative products such as e-cigarettes to make up for declining sales.
