Jun Ji-hyun Set to Return After 5 Years; New Drama with Kang Dong-won Finally Announced

Goddess Jun Ji-hyun is returning after five years, starring in the upcoming drama "The Whirlwind" as South Korean diplomat and former ambassador to the U.S., "Seo Mun-joo." She investigates the truth behind an attack on a presidential candidate, unraveling a massive conspiracy that threatens the entire Korean Peninsula, together with the mysterious agent of unknown nationality "Baek San-ho" (played by Kang Dong-won), who must protect her. Disney＋ finally announced yesterday that the series will premiere on September 10.

In addition to lead actors Jun Ji-hyun and Kang Dong-won, the cast features many familiar K-drama faces, including Lee Mi-sook, Park Hae-joon, Kim Hae-sook, Yoo Jae-myung, Oh Jung-se, Lee Sang-hee, Joo Jong-hyuk, and Won Ji-an. The show also boasts international actors such as John Cho ("Star Trek"), Mike Gaston ("Spencer Confidential"), Christopher Gorham ("Dirty Justice"), and Spencer Garrett ("Once Upon a Time in Hollywood"), making it possibly the strongest international cast in K-drama history.

The production team is equally impressive: Directed by Kim Hee-won of "Queen of Tears" and "Vincenzo," joined by top Korean action director Heo Myung-haeng ("The Outlaws 4"). The script is penned by Jeong Seo-kyeong ("Decision to Leave," "Little Women"). Other top crew members include cinematographer Lee Moo-gae (whose film credits include the blockbusters "Exhuma" and "12.12: The Day"), music director Kang Ki-young (Disney+'s "Moving"), music supervisor Jung Jae-il ("Parasite," "Squid Game"), and art director Kim Byung-han ("Narco-Saints").
