(Serian, 23rd) — The Sarawak Land and Survey Department has surveyed a total area of 1,217,766 hectares of Native Customary Rights (NCR) land to date, of which 938,342 hectares have been gazetted from 2010 to September 30 this year. Sarawak Deputy Premier and Second Minister for Natural Resources and Urban Development, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, pointed out that the government is gazetting 12 more areas today, covering a total of 12,370.232 hectares and including 36 villages such as Kampung Tebakang Dayak, Kampung Semuja, Kampung Seniawan, Kampung Terbat, Kampung Igom, Kampung Belimbing, Kampung Tabuan Rabak, Kampung Seratau, Kampung Semeru, Kampung Emperoh Gerung, and Kampung Danu.
Awang Tengah stated that these lands are gazetted as 'Native Communal Reserve' under Section 6 of the Sarawak Land Code.
"After gazetting under Section 6, the next phase is to conduct individual lot surveys and issue land titles under Section 18, a process that is currently being actively carried out across Sarawak."
He said this yesterday while attending the 'Land Compensation Cheque Presentation Ceremony and Gazettement of Native Communal Reserve under Section 6 of the Sarawak Land Code, and Presentation of Land Titles for Serian Division.'
Awang Tengah emphasized that land surveying work will only proceed with the consent of the landowners and when there are no boundary disputes.
"The cooperation of village heads, community leaders, and landowners is crucial to ensure the plan is implemented smoothly and without delay. Therefore, we reiterate that surveys will only be conducted upon receiving formal applications that are legally and factually verified.
If a case is still in court dispute, surveying will not be carried out until the case is resolved."
On another note, he also pointed out that at yesterday's ceremony, a total of 57 recipients received land compensation amounting to RM9,867,937.55 for infrastructure development projects in the Serian area.
