A male university law student in Taiwan, while still in school, spent a prolonged period online chatting with male netizens and minors. Using a voice changer and virtual imagery, he lured them into nude chats, secretly recorded them, and sold the footage, resulting in the sexual images of more than 300 men and boys being leaked across Taiwan.
According to United Daily News Network on the 3rd, the Taichung District Prosecutor’s Office previously condemned the aforementioned male student, surnamed Hung, for his egregious acts, sought a heavy sentence in the indictment, and searched and arrested Hung once before he graduated. At first, the court granted him bail, but the prosecution appealed successfully, and Hung was detained again immediately upon graduation.
According to reports, Hung was studying at National Taiwan University. The Taichung District Prosecutor's Office stated that from December 2024 onwards, they received reports from seven victims who were deceived, secretly recorded, and had their sexual images distributed, leading to them filing charges. By examining Hung's financial accounts and the IP address linked to his X (Twitter) account, the police and prosecutors searched his residence on May 14 this year, seizing a total of 6,918 sexual videos from USB drives, hard drives, and cloud storage.
The prosecution stated that Hung voluntarily turned over 125,000 New Taiwan Dollars (about 17,300 Malaysian Ringgit) in criminal proceeds. The prosecutor determined that there was risk of collusion with accomplices or witnesses, and obtained court approval for Hung's detention and restriction from meeting others. The investigation has now concluded, and the case has been transferred for trial.
The prosecution pointed out that starting in 2024 during his university years, Hung used IG and dating apps to seek out adult men and teenage male netizens, engaging them in conversation while posing as a woman. He lured them using a pre-written video script and real-time voice changer software, got them to produce sexual content during chats, and secretly recorded them—amassing 289 videos of adult men and 32 of male minors.
The prosecution discovered that since 2022, Hung had also set up accounts on X (Twitter) to recruit netizens into Telegram groups he established, and posted catalogs of sexual images he had purchased or exchanged, offering them for sale at prices ranging from NT$200 to NT$2,500 (about 28 to 345 Malaysian Ringgit) per video. A total of 203 videos of adult and minor males were sold.
Additionally, starting in 2023, Hung reproduced purchased or exchanged sexual images and stored them on Google Drive (comprising 1,339 adult videos and 127 minor videos), MEGA cloud storage (131 adult videos and 14 minor videos), USB drives (317 adult videos and 36 minor videos), and a laptop computer (154 adult videos), distributing, selling, and reproducing illegally recorded sexual footage.
The prosecution stated that starting in 2022, Hung secretly recorded 289 adult men and 32 minors, and distributed and sold 203 videos involving adults and minors. A large amount of reproduced sexual images have also been found, totaling 6,918 confiscated sexual videos. The number of victims is high, and the crimes are severe.
Prosecutors bluntly stated that Hung's selling of sexual images, via the anonymity and rapid spread through the Internet, severely promoted further dissemination and inflicted permanent, indelible harm on the victims. His crimes were extremely malicious and showed utter disregard for the law. He has now been indicted for crimes under laws including the Child and Youth Sexual Exploitation Prevention Act, and prosecutors have requested the court to impose a heavy sentence.
