A scandal has broken out in the police force of Kaohsiung, Taiwan, with reports that a male police officer used his bodycam to secretly record large numbers of women who came to make reports or have statements taken, then used AI “face-swapping” to create nude sexual images of these women.
According to a report from United Daily News on the 13th, some victims only learned they had been secretly recorded when they received subpoenas from prosecutors, while others had only borrowed a restroom at the police station and were also filmed. The victims may jointly hire a lawyer for a class action lawsuit. The police have so far only stated that an internal investigation is also underway, and the entire case is currently being investigated by the Kaohsiung District Prosecutors Office.
One of the victims posted on Threads that she only found out she had been secretly filmed by the officer taking her statement two years ago after receiving a subpoena for a personal data protection case from the Kaohsiung District Prosecutors Office. He had then used her image to create an AI-generated “nude.” After appearing in court, she learned that she was far from the only victim to receive such a subpoena, which she called “totally ridiculous.”
Many netizens, after seeing the post, commented in disbelief that a police officer could secretly film women inside the police station, then use AI face-swapping technology to make nude sexual images of them. They condemned the officer for being a supposed “protector of the people” but breaking the law himself, and questioned whether large numbers of these AI face-swap nudes of female victims were already circulating on adult platforms like “Creative Private Room.”
The post also drew a comment from another female victim, saying she had only borrowed the restroom at the police station when she was secretly filmed. The official photo taken for her statement had also been misused by the officer. She said she would be seeking civil compensation in addition to the criminal case, and hoped to jointly hire a lawyer with other victims.
