25-Year-Old Chinese Wingsuit Flyer Dies in Italy: Collides with Mountainside and Dies Instantly

At around 1:45 p.m. local time on the 5th in Italy's South Tyrol region, an accident occurred: a 25-year-old Chinese wingsuit flyer jumped from a high point on Mount Piz da Lec and, unfortunately, collided with the mountainside, dying instantly. Police stated that they are investigating the cause of the accident.

The Chinese Embassy in Italy has revealed that a Chinese citizen unfortunately died on the 5th during a wingsuit flying activity, and the embassy is actively providing assistance by contacting the bereaved family and local police.

According to reports in the Italian media, on the day of the incident, the man was accompanied by a friend. After gearing up, he jumped from the mountaintop. Witnesses said the parachute jump itself proceeded safely, but the man did not land at the intended landing spot. After his friend landed safely and did not see the man follow, he immediately called the police for help.

The local mountain rescue team and a search and rescue helicopter arrived at the scene one after the other and found the man in a very steep and perilous location in the mountains. By then, he had already died from colliding with the mountainside. Rescue personnel descended by rope more than 110 meters from the helicopter to reach the body. After securing it, the team carried the remains into the helicopter.

Some Chinese netizens noticed that Douyin blogger “RandyZ” posted wingsuit flying videos from the vicinity of the incident area during the same time period, so they left comments under the account expressing concern. However, the blogger has not responded since roughly 2:30 p.m. Beijing time on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, a reporter from Ziniu News called the Chinese Embassy in Italy. Staff stated that the embassy is aware of the public's concern regarding blogger “RandyZ,” but has yet to receive further confirmation from local police, and is in contact with the local police and fire department to confirm the deceased's precise identity.

According to Italian media reports, on August 8 last year, another 36-year-old wingsuit flying enthusiast named Ryan Kamel also unfortunately died after jumping from Mount Piz da Lec.
