(Kuching, 21st) Deputy Minister of Sarawak Utilities, Dato Ibrahim Baki, stated that the Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar expressed his support for the Sarawak Gas Roadmap (SGR) as it is expected to attract investments worth billions of ringgit and create job opportunities for the people of Sarawak.

Baki mentioned that Prime Minister Anwar expressed his support for the Sarawak Gas Roadmap during a meeting held last Saturday during his visit to Sarawak.

As a council member, Ibrahim Baki expressed during the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Zone 2 Hari Raya gathering in his constituency yesterday, that the Sarawak Gas Roadmap will generate income for Sarawak and create opportunities for local businesses and entrepreneurs.

He thanked the Prime Minister for recognizing the Sarawak Oil Company (Petros) as the sole gas supplier in Sarawak.

“I am delighted that Prime Minister Anwar reiterated the recognition of the role played by the Sarawak Oil and Gas Company during his recent visit.”

He further stated that during his visit to Sarawak, the Prime Minister once again announced that he recognizes Sarawak, through the Sarawak Oil Company, as a gas hub, which is significant for Sarawak.

“This means we are responsible for the distribution and sale of gas, which will help increase our gas industry's revenue. We appreciate the Prime Minister’s recognition.”

Additionally, Ibrahim Baki pointed out that Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari, has envisioned developing the western part of Sarawak and Kuching's gas industry via the Sarawak Gas Roadmap.

He also thanked the Premier for appointing him as the Deputy Minister in charge of utilities and oil and gas affairs.

Baki admitted that this responsibility is a huge challenge since these two industries are crucial for short-term, medium-term, and long-term revenue.

“I will do my best to find ways to increase our revenue, not only in energy production but also to reduce costs for the people and in the oil and gas sector.”
