(Bandar Seri Begawan, 13th) The 2025 Brunei Temburong Limbang Calligraphy Competition was held at the Brunei Concepts Computer Zhi Lian Hall.
This calligraphy competition featured two categories: the student group and the open group, attracting calligraphy enthusiasts from all age groups to actively participate. Among them, 14 students competed in the student category, showcasing the younger generation's love for traditional calligraphy, while the open category had 23 participants, creating a lively atmosphere.
The purpose of hosting this competition is to create a new platform for calligraphy enthusiasts from Brunei, Temburong, and Limbang to interact, exchange, and foster friendships, promote Chinese culture and Confucian thought, as well as advance and enhance the art of Chinese character calligraphy and discover talented calligraphy enthusiasts.
Acting President of the Brunei Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Culture Association, Yu Qingzai, remarked at the 2025 Brunei Temburong Limbang Calligraphy Competition that the fragrance of ink fills the air, and colorful paintings abound. In this culturally rich Zhi Lian Hall, we gather together to welcome the participants to cultivate with brush and ink.
He said that today's calligraphy competition is an open contest among the three fields of Brunei, Temburong, and Sarawak, jointly organized by the Brunei Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Culture Association, the Sabah Temburong Calligraphy Association, and the Sarawak Limbang Calligraphy Association. In Brunei, the calligraphy competition is hosted by the Brunei Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Culture Association, with this morning's student group competition to be sent to Lawas for judging.
He noted that calligraphy is a treasure of Chinese culture and the essence of art, also a precious asset of human culture. Calligraphy is an art form and a discipline. The culture passed down through thousands of years enhances its greatness, thus being profound and vast. It's a lifelong learning pursuit, as the best masterpieces of calligraphy masters are often their works in old age, reflecting the highest realm where the person and their writing become one.
Yu Qing hopes that all participants can showcase their talents and display their elegance in this competition.
