(Bandar Seri Begawan, 9th) Dr. Liu Shiquan, President of the Brunei Fuzhou Ten Counties Association, stated that as spring returns and everything is renewed, at this auspicious moment of the Bingwu Year’s Spring Festival, our Brunei Fuzhou Ten Counties Association gathers together to solemnly hold the Spring Festival Respect-for-Elders Celebration Banquet.
I would like to, on behalf of the association, extend the most sincere Spring Festival greetings to all elders and fellow townspeople present! I wish everyone vigor and vitality, happiness and health, family bliss, harmony and safety. Thanks be to the Lord!
He said, since its establishment in 2012, the Brunei Fuzhou Ten Counties Association has always been committed to serving compatriots and maintaining clan bonds. Here is the “second home” for all Fuzhou Ten Counties compatriots in Brunei. This “home” not only provides us a platform for mutual assistance and exchange, but also unites us with our shared identity and cultural roots, forming a strong cohesion and centripetal force.
Respecting and loving the elderly is a virtue passed down for thousands of years in the Chinese nation and is also an irreplaceable treasure of our Fuzhou Ten Counties culture. Many elders present have been founders and witnesses of our community’s development. You left your hometowns in your early years, came to this land and worked hard, paved the way with hardship and perseverance, not only creating happy lives for your families, but also making indelible contributions to Brunei’s economic and social development as well as the growth of our association. The resilience, wisdom, and dedication you embody are models for us younger generations to learn from. Tonight’s Respect-for-Elders Celebration is precisely to express our highest respect and gratitude to all elders. We wish all elders good health, longevity, and happiness with your families.
He said that the development of the association cannot be separated from the cultivation of the past and even more so looks to the inheritance of the future. We deeply understand that a community's vitality lies in its continuous cohesion and creativity. Therefore, while respecting the elderly and consolidating existing strengths, we always keep our eyes on the future. We actively focus on and nurture outstanding young people, encourage the younger generation of townspeople to participate in association affairs, and strengthen their recognition of clan culture, providing them a platform for learning, exchange, and development. The youth are the hope for the future and the successors of the association’s cause. Only by passing the torch to the younger generation can our “home” flourish forever, and can our mission of serving our townspeople and contributing to society be passed on from generation to generation.
He also said that the annual donation to the Crown Prince’s Orphans Fund will be held this year on the morning of March 13 at the Sultan’s Foundation Building, with Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, Pehin Dato Halbi, personally present to accept the donation. I call on everyone to actively participate in the donation. Our association has responded to the Crown Prince’s Orphans Fund for 14 consecutive years, and at that time, our association will present a certificate of appreciation to each donor.
He said today is also International Women’s Day. I wish all women in the world: may you have light in your eyes, love in your heart, bloom like a flower, and shine with grace.
