(Borneo Bulletin, Bandar Seri Begawan, 19th) – Recently, Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien College welcomed a youth HIV awareness programme (HAPPY) organized by the Brunei Darussalam AIDS Council (BDAIDS Council), with a total of 74 students taking part in the educational activity.

This initiative is one among several aimed at enhancing students' health awareness at the school, with the HAPPY programme coordinator, Kayler, as the main speaker. In her lecture, she emphasized that understanding basic knowledge about HIV and its modes of transmission is crucial for young people.

She pointed out that many youths still harbor misconceptions about HIV transmission, and are even influenced by rumors, therefore, it is necessary to use positive education to correct misunderstandings. She gave a detailed explanation of the virus’s transmission routes and prevention methods, guiding students to face this public health issue directly.

In addition to the topic of HIV, Kayler also discussed the rising trend of teenage pregnancy. She shared the potential impacts of pregnancy on the body, emotions, and social relationships, reminding students to set healthy boundaries in relationships to avoid unplanned pregnancies.

The activity also cited local Brunei statistics related to HIV, further highlighting the urgency of increasing social awareness and spreading education.

It is understood that the HAPPY programme is a youth-led educational platform dedicated to raising public awareness of HIV, teenage pregnancy, and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). The programme communicates locally relevant health information by integrating audio, visual materials, and interactive segments, helping young people gain essential knowledge to protect themselves.
