Armed Gang Robbery Case on Bakam Road, Miri: Police Swiftly Solve Case, Four Suspects Arrested

(Miri, 21st) Miri police confirmed that they recently received a 999 emergency call about an armed gang robbery case at a semi-detached double-storey house in Taman Viana, Bakam Road.

Miri District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Lee Bing Qiang, stated in a press release today that upon receiving the report, the Criminal Investigation Department team immediately rushed to the scene to assist the affected family. However, by the time police arrived, the suspects had already fled.

With the help of information provided by the public, the police successfully identified the suspects' hideout and, within 24 hours, quickly launched an operation, successfully dismantling the armed gang robbery group.

The police arrested a total of four suspects, including one local male and three foreign nationals, aged between 38 and 57. During the raid, authorities seized tools used in the crime, including a car, knives, cutting tools, masks, and clothing worn by the thieves. Some stolen items were also recovered, including watches, jewelry, identification documents, wallets, and cash, all believed to belong to the victims.

The police believe that this group is involved in multiple armed gang robberies throughout various locations in Miri between 2024 and 2025. Currently, the four suspects have been granted a 7-day remand, from June 20 to June 27, to assist in the investigation.

The police said that the arrest and seizure was in response to an armed robbery that took place at 4am on June 19 at Taman Viana, which was successfully solved within 24 hours. As for the video footage that went viral on social media recently, it involved a robbery that took place at Jalan Hilstone at 8pm on June 13. After investigation and analysis of the modus operandi, the police found that both cases were committed by the same criminal group.

The police thank the public for actively providing information and also urge citizens to remain vigilant and strengthen home security measures, such as installing sturdy fences and security grilles, CCTV, and alarm systems.
