(Kuala Muda, 13th) A pair of student lovers secretly conceived a baby, and after the girl gave birth to a baby boy, they abandoned him naked by the side of a back alley near a residential house. Fortunately, residents discovered the baby in time and called the police. The police quickly launched an operation and arrested a 17-year-old secondary school student yesterday to assist in the investigation.
The police investigation found that the baby's biological mother is a 19-year-old Thai-origin woman. This woman is currently receiving treatment and observation in a hospital ward. Her boyfriend, only 17 years old, is a Malay secondary school student and has been detained for two days to assist in the investigation.
Kuala Muda District Police Chief Han Yan pointed out that the Bukit Selambau police station's report counter received a report at about 9:55 a.m. on the 13th (Saturday) of this month, stating that a baby boy had been found abandoned by the roadside at Lane 39 of Taman Ria Jaya, Bukit Selambau, Central Kedah.
He said that a witness heard a baby's cry while hanging clothes behind her house, so she searched the area and ended up finding a completely naked baby boy on the gravelly ground of the back alley. She immediately screamed, and neighbors came out upon hearing her, helping to bring the baby to a safe place.
The baby boy was then sent to Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital in Sungai Petani for examination. The doctor confirmed the baby was in good condition, with only minor abrasions on his right eye and the right side of his body.
He stated that police also found bloodstains in the vicinity of the incident. After further investigation, they successfully identified and arrested a 17-year-old male secondary school student to assist in the investigation.
"Police will also arrest a 19-year-old woman, who is believed to be the baby's biological mother and is still receiving treatment in hospital."
He said the pair are believed to be in a romantic relationship, and the 17-year-old male suspect has been remanded for two days to assist in the investigation.
Police are investigating the case under Section 317 of the Penal Code (child abandonment). If convicted, any person can be sentenced to imprisonment for not more than 7 years, or a fine, or both.
