Taeyi (real name: Moon Taeil), a former member of the popular Korean group “NCT,” appeared at the Seoul Central District Court on the 18th for the first hearing regarding his involvement in a “special quasi-rape” case. Prosecutors requested a sentence of 7 years of imprisonment for him and the other two accomplices, along with the recommendation to restrict all three from engaging in any occupation related to children and adolescents for 10 years.
Taeyi appeared in court on the 18th along with the other two defendants and admitted to all the charges. It is reported that in June 2024, Taeyi and the other two men were accused of conspiring to assault a woman who was intoxicated and unable to resist. Prosecutors highlighted that, as this case involved multiple perpetrators assaulting a victim incapacitated to the point of losing her ability to defend herself, the charges were filed under the “Special Quasi-Rape” clause of the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes.
“SM Entertainment” unexpectedly announced at the end of last year that from October 15, 2024, they would terminate their exclusive contract with Taeyi, emphasizing: “He is currently involved in a criminal lawsuit, which constitutes sufficient grounds to terminate the contract. The company can no longer have continued faith in him as an artist, and thus the parties have agreed to terminate the contract.” The revelation of the incident stunned the public.
