(Kuching, 18th) The first meeting of the 4th quarter of the 19th Sarawak Council will be held from tomorrow (19th) to the 28th, lasting 8 days.
Tan Sri Datuk Amar Asfia, Speaker of the Sarawak Council, announced at a press conference today that the meetings will be conducted daily at 9 am on the 8th floor of the Sarawak Legislative Assembly Building, with sessions paused on Saturday and Sunday (24th and 25th).
He stated that the opening ceremony of the Sarawak Council will be held tomorrow and will be presided over by the Sarawak Governor Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.
Asfia disclosed that six bills are expected to be presented during this session, namely the 'Supplementary Supply (2024) Bill 2025', 'Supplementary Supply (2025) Bill 2025', 'Sarawak Biodiversity Centre (Amendment) Bill 2025', 'Land Code (Amendment) Bill 2025', 'Local Authorities (Amendment) Bill 2025', and 'Infrastructure Development Trust Fund (Dissolution) Bill 2025'.
He also mentioned that the Q&A session will commence on the 20th and continue until the 23rd, spanning 4 days.
As of the deadline on May 5th, he noted that a total of 320 oral and written questions from 41 members were received. Among them, 247 require oral responses, while 73 require written replies.
He highlighted that the Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development and the Ministry of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government received the most inquiries, each with 48 questions.
In a subsequent statement, it was noted that the aforementioned bills will be submitted by the respective ministers from the 20th to the 22nd, with related debate on motions to assess from the 21st to the 23rd.
Ministers from various departments will provide their concluding speeches from the 26th to the 28th, continuing until the last day of the session.
Moreover, on the 22nd, there will also be a review of motions regarding the election of members to the National Senate.
As of the deadline on May 9th, the secretariat of the council had not received any private motions submitted by any member in accordance with the council's standing orders.
