33-year-old award-winning actress Zhou Dongyu and the 5-years-younger male star Liu Haoran have reportedly broken up. Chinese paparazzi revealed they received tips the two’s relationship had ended, and even caught them working at the same photo studio, but both were doing their own thing, treating each other like air. Since 2022, the two were rumored to be together after playing basketball and using matching couple stickers, but they never publicly admitted to the relationship. They have repeatedly collaborated on movies, such as “Burning Winter,” which was nominated for the Cannes Film Festival’s Un Certain Regard section, though its box office flopped badly. “Flames on the Plain” couldn’t pass broadcasting scrutiny in China and was never released. News of their breakup has shocked fans of both.
Chinese paparazzi Baixiaosheng said that Zhou Dongyu and Liu Haoran recently worked at the same photo studio but were cold and almost did not interact the entire time. These days, Zhou is showing more femininity, appearing with curled hair and dresses, and happily chatting when staff put an arm around her. Liu Haoran, on the other hand, kept his mask on the whole time and left swiftly as soon as work was done.
Three years ago, paparazzi caught Liu Haoran swiping his access card directly into Zhou Dongyu’s home, and Zhou’s car had often been seen entering the community where he lives. They were also spotted playing tennis together and sparking romance rumors. Although both sides never admitted to dating, the pair were generally recognized as a couple. Both are A-list stars in Chinese cinema, but ironically their collaborative films haven’t done well. Two years ago, there were even marriage rumors, which Liu Haoran denied. The last time they were seen together publicly was to promote the film “Burning Winter”, but in recent years, the two have kept their distance—even when promoting new movies together, they would always pull director Anthony Chen to stand between them for photos. So it’s not surprising there was no interaction at the photo studio.
