Israeli Media: Israeli and US Leaders Discuss Joint Action Plan in Case US-Iran Talks Fail

Published at Feb 12, 2026 03:49 pm
Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu held a meeting with US President Trump at the White House on the 11th, according to Israeli media reports on the same day. The closed-door meeting was aimed at formulating a US-Israel 'joint action plan' in response to a hypothetical scenario in which US-Iran negotiations end without results.

After the meeting, the Israeli Prime Minister's Office issued a statement saying that Netanyahu and Trump discussed topics including US-Iran negotiations, Gaza, and the situation in the Middle East, and emphasized Israel’s security needs regarding the US-Iran talks. Both sides agreed to maintain coordination and strengthen the close ties between the two countries.

The Times of Israel noted that the statement did not indicate that the US and Israel had reached a consensus on the Iran issue.

In addition, Israel's Channel 12 TV, citing US and Israeli officials familiar with the matter, reported that both sides are skeptical about the possibility of a deal between the US and Iran. The meeting aimed to establish a joint action plan in the event that the US fails to reach an agreement with Iran through negotiations.

The report quoted a senior US official as saying that even if the negotiations are limited to the Iranian nuclear issue and do not touch on Iran's ballistic missile program, the US side still doubts whether an agreement can be reached with Iran. If the US and Israel agree to launch a joint strike should US-Iran talks fail, such action may be far more effective than unilateral military action by either the US or Israel individually.

The report said that the Israeli government and security services do not expect the US-Iran negotiations to reach an agreement. Regardless of the outcome, Israel wishes to maintain its 'freedom of action' in the region surrounding Iran.
