Gas Leak Detected Underground in Tudan Construction Zone – Fire & Rescue Department Conducts Emergency Monitoring and Site Sealing

(Miri, 19th) – The Miri Lutong Fire & Rescue Department received a report this morning regarding an underground gas leak at a road construction site in Tudan. Firefighters promptly rushed to the scene to carry out monitoring operations. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident.

The incident was reported at 7:45 a.m. today, with the location at a construction site on Jalan Perdana, about 11 kilometers from the Lutong Fire Station. The rescue team arrived on site at 7:57 a.m. and confirmed that gas was leaking from a cylindrical pile (cerucuk) within the site.

The operation commander was PBK I Amindra, under the leadership of Lutong Fire Station chief Henry. Firefighters, fully equipped with personal protective equipment (PPE), immediately set up a safety perimeter in the relevant area and continued to monitor the gas leakage.

The authorities have temporarily sealed off the pile where the gas was leaking, pending further inspection. Meanwhile, contractors from Sarawak Petroleum (PETROS) have also arrived on scene to identify the type and composition of the gas. Before safety is confirmed, all construction work at the site has been completely suspended.

A total of five firefighters and one fire truck were deployed for this operation. Other participating units included four police officers and four PETROS personnel.

The Fire & Rescue Department stated that they will continue to monitor the situation at the site to ensure the safety of the surrounding environment.
