‘Parasite Underclass’ Box Office Breaks 7.11 Million; Dissy to Continue Attacking 2027 Chinese New Year Market

Produced by Malaysia’s renowned online creative team Dissy, directed by Zhang Wei Chen (Lao Zhang), and with Singapore’s comedy king Mark Lee as producer, the 2026 Chinese New Year black comedy ‘Parasite Underclass’ has accumulated a box office exceeding RM7.11 million in Malaysia. Dissy also officially announced that their third Chinese New Year film ‘Joy Comes Knocking’ will start filming this August, continuing to seize the 2027 Chinese New Year slot with hopes of setting new box office records.

After their first Chinese New Year film ‘Kuan Ni Cha Shi’ in 2025 swept up RM12.7 million at the Malaysian box office and a combined RM13.2 million in Malaysia and Singapore, Dissy scored another success with ‘Parasite Underclass’, placing works in the top 10 local Chinese-language films by box office for two consecutive years.

At the appreciation banquet for ‘Parasite Underclass’ on Thursday night, a host of cast members including Sang Bill, Adeline, Da Hee, Yuriko, Michie, Anthony (Ant), Jin Chenwu, Yuniyce, Zuvia, and Judy showed up in support, creating a lively scene. Dissy founder and ‘Parasite Underclass’ producer Muren also announced at the event that he will personally direct the brand new 2027 Chinese New Year film ‘Joy Comes Knocking’.

In the past two years, Dissy has taken audiences into tea houses and gangs. This time around, the team will present a romantic comedy theme, inviting audiences to enter a joyful world full of ‘double happiness’ during the Lunar New Year, and to laugh together to welcome the spring festival.

When talking about the cast, Muren revealed that the Dissy core team would definitely continue to participate, but the complete list won’t be announced yet to prevent possible future changes. As for whether Mark Lee, who has starred in Dissy’s previous two films, will join ‘Joy Comes Knocking’, he said early discussions have been held but it depends on Mark Lee’s schedule.

In addition, Lao Zhang, who directed both ‘Kuan Ni Cha Shi’ and ‘Parasite Underclass’, has not left the team, but has instead taken on the role of post-production director, overseeing the entire post-production process and leading the original production team’s full return to ensure the quality of ‘Joy Comes Knocking’, aiming to further upgrade comedic timing and production quality. Muren joked that he and Lao Zhang have long had an understanding between them: “We agreed to each direct one film. My dream is to shoot a romantic action movie; although this time it’s just a romantic comedy, at least there’s still a romantic element!”
