EFTA Delegation Pays Courtesy Call on Sarawak's Chief Minister Seeking Cooperation with Sarawak in Green Energy

(Kuching, 23rd) The Chief Minister of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari, received a courtesy call from the Parliamentary Committee delegation of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) at the Bapa Malaysia Building yesterday.

This visit is part of the delegation’s week-long itinerary in Malaysia, aiming to strengthen inter-parliamentary links, obtain firsthand information and perspectives, and seek political support for the Malaysia-EFTA Economic Partnership Agreement (MEEPA) concluded on the 11th of this month.

The courtesy call was led by the Chairman of the EFTA Parliamentary Committee and head of the Icelandic delegation, Mr. Grímur.

Accompanying him were Dato' Sri Mohamad Abdullah, Deputy State Secretary of Sarawak (Economic Planning and Development); Ms. Trine Lise, head of the Norwegian delegation; Mr. Thomas, head of the Swiss delegation; Mr. Sebastian, head of the Liechtenstein delegation; and other distinguished guests.

At the press conference, Grímur stated that the purpose of this visit to Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari was to explore topics related to green energy.

“We are discussing energy development and production, especially in the area of green energy cooperation. Sustainable development and green energy are key themes, including carbon capture technology.”

Meanwhile, Trine Lise pointed out that Norway is highly interested in Sarawak’s algae industry, particularly in its applications in the green energy sector.

“Norway has extensive experience in the application of algae production in the food supply sector. However, during our visit to the Sarawak Biodiversity Centre, we also witnessed more advanced related technologies, which greatly interest us.”
