(United States, 29th) U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent said at a White House press conference on the 28th that Oman has guaranteed it will not impose transit fees on the Strait of Hormuz.
He stated that he had spoken by phone with the Omani ambassador to the U.S. that morning, and the ambassador assured him that Oman had no plans to levy transit fees for the Strait of Hormuz.
He said: "I told him (the Omani ambassador), this (imposing transit fees) simply won't work. He also does not want to risk Oman or its financial institutions being sanctioned."
Earlier that day, Bessent posted on social media warning Oman not to assist in imposing transit fees in the Strait of Hormuz, or else it would face sanctions.
Iranian Supreme National Security Council Deputy Secretary Bagheri had previously stated that Iran and Oman are currently discussing new mechanisms for ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
U.S. President Trump said on the 27th that the Strait of Hormuz is not under anyone's jurisdiction and warned that Oman would be bombed if it did not follow the rules.
