(Bandar Seri Begawan, 7th) The 17th World Wushu Championships were held from August 31 to September 8 in Brasília, the capital of Brazil. This is the first time the event is being held in Latin America, with over 1,000 athletes from 70 countries and regions participating.
On the first day of the competition, the routine events began with the men's Nanquan. Brunei athlete Lee Han achieved fifth place among fierce competition—a remarkable accomplishment out of 44 competitors. The gold medalist from China scored 9.786 points, the silver medal went to Hong Kong with 9.76 points, the bronze medalist had 9.746 points, fourth place was Chinese Taipei with 9.716 points, and fifth was Brunei with 9.70 points. In the men's Changquan preliminaries, our athlete Wali placed fourth in his group and advanced to the finals—out of 85 athletes split into two groups, the top six from each group proceed to the finals. Both athletes performed outstandingly today, and in such a competitive field, achieving these results makes both myself and Coach Zhao Chunjie very satisfied—we are proud of them. Tomorrow's event will be Basma's Taijiquan.
