Brunei Receives Indian Delegation to Promote Twin City Tourism Cooperation

(Bandar Seri Begawan, 18th)—The Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism, through the Tourism Development Department, hosted a three-day familiarization (FAM) visit from July 1-3, 2025, receiving 20 representatives from the Tamil Nadu chapter of the Travel Agents Federation of India (TAFI).
Before arriving in Brunei, the Tamil Nadu delegation also visited Kuching, Sarawak as part of their itinerary. This joint program reflects growing interest among all parties in developing a "Twin City Program" within the Borneo region.
The program aims to provide a seamless travel experience between Brunei and Kuching, showcasing the region’s cultural diversity, natural landscapes, and connectivity. This integrated destination event seeks to attract Indian tourists looking for a more immersive holiday experience.
Previously, similar events were mainly focused on Chennai, but this follow-up FAM tour has been expanded to the whole Tamil Nadu state, inviting more experienced and influential travel agents who represent a broader network in the region. By offering first-hand insights into Brunei’s attractions, the program aims to give these key industry players a deeper understanding and greater confidence to promote Brunei to Indian tourists, while also fostering long-term business cooperation with local tourism stakeholders.
During the visit, the delegates experienced a carefully curated itinerary designed to showcase the essence of local lifestyle, cultural landmarks, and Brunei's ecotourism products. Highlights included: Tamu Kianggeh Market, photo session outside Istana Nurul Iman, visits to iconic mosques such as Jame' Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque and Jubilee Park. The trip also explored Brunei’s rich biodiversity through a mangrove river cruise and river adventure, finally concluding with a vibrant outing to Gadong Night Market.
5. TAFI agents also organized a brief networking session to discuss future cooperation and offer more personalized products for Indian outbound tourists.
India continues to be a promising source market for Brunei, with air arrivals rising steadily from 3,555 in 2023 to 5,922 in 2024. This growth is attributed to Royal Brunei Airlines' direct Chennai-Brunei route. To maintain this positive momentum, the Tourism Development Department will continue to strengthen promotion in India throughout 2025, including targeted marketing, destination training, and a series of inbound FAM trips.
