An 8.2-magnitude strong earthquake struck Mindanao Island, Philippines on the 8th. The U.S. Tsunami Warning System has issued a tsunami threat warning.
The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) initially reported the earthquake in the Philippines as magnitude 8.2, but later revised it to 7.8, with a focal depth of 10 kilometers.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center earlier stated that within the next three hours, widespread dangerous tsunamis could occur along parts of the coasts of Indonesia, the Philippines, Palau, Taiwan, and Papua New Guinea.
