Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussein presented an outstanding report card at the handover ceremony on Friday, highlighting his success not only in reducing the crime rate by 12% last year, but also in seizing as much as 5,800 kilograms of various drugs, with a total value of RM 145 million!
Hussein, who is about to take up the post as Director of the Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department, said that the Selangor police successfully seized 5,300 kilograms of drugs worth RM 155 million in 2023, and the quantity seized last year further increased to 5,800 kilograms, with a market value of about RM 145 million. If these drugs had entered the market, they would have been enough for abuse by 11.55 million drug users.
He revealed that the Selangor Police Commercial Crime Investigation Department arrested about 22,000 suspects in 2023, and the number surged to about 40,000 last year, involving total losses as high as RM 680 million.
"In the first five months of this year, police have already initiated 5,208 commercial crime investigations, involving an amount up to RM 616 million."
Hussein made these statements at the Selangor Police Chief Handover Ceremony, where National Police Administration Director Datuk Seri Azri was present as a witness.
Selangor Deputy Police Chief Deputy Commissioner Zani will temporarily serve as "Selangor Police Number One" before an official appointment is made.
Hussein also said he feels honored to have shouldered this vital responsibility during his two years and five months as Selangor Police Chief, with the full support of his team.
"I want to thank all department heads, district police chiefs, police station chiefs, and all officers. It is with your support and hard work that my leadership has achieved such results. We have together reshaped the image of the Selangor police force, making it more professional and efficient."
He is also grateful to the police force for giving him the opportunity to learn within a large-scale system, so that he could better master how to reduce crime rates, respond effectively to disasters, handle media relations, and collaborate with officials and subordinates at different levels.
